Neighbr launches UAE’s first peer-to-peer platform for renting everyday household items

A new UAE-based platform is aiming to transform how residents access everyday household items by making it easier to rent them from people living nearby instead of buying them outright.

Neighbr, the country’s first operational peer-to-peer marketplace dedicated to household rentals, connects neighbours through a trusted platform where users can rent and lend items ranging from power tools and baby equipment to cameras, party supplies and home essentials.

Built around the idea of “access over ownership,” the platform enables users to list items in under 30 seconds using AI-powered technology that automatically generates listing details from a single photo. Every user undergoes ID verification before listing or renting, helping create a safer and more reliable experience than traditional classified marketplaces.

Neighbr currently supports 12 categories, including electronics, DIY tools, sports and outdoor equipment, photography gear, gaming, baby products, pet accessories, furniture, cleaning equipment and bicycles, giving residents access to items they may only need occasionally.

The platform was founded by Natalie Malhas, who came up with the idea after relocating to Dubai and realising that many everyday items sit unused in homes while neighbours who need them have no easy way to connect.

“Someone in this building has a drill. Someone has an extra chair. I just don’t know who they are. That was the moment Neighbr was born,” said Natalie Malhas, Founder of Neighbr.

By encouraging residents to share existing resources rather than purchase new ones, the platform supports more sustainable consumption while helping owners generate additional income from items that would otherwise remain unused. The initiative also aligns with the UAE’s sustainability goals, including the Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031, UAE Net Zero 2050 and Dubai Zero-Waste 2041.

Since its launch, Neighbr has attracted 46 registered users and more than 1,150 platform visits entirely through organic growth, reflecting growing interest in community-based sharing and circular economy solutions across the UAE.

Looking ahead, the company plans to expand beyond individual users by working with businesses and community partners to build a broader sharing ecosystem that benefits both residents and the environment.
